I am Mei-Yu Kuo (I go by "Mei," pronounced as "May"). I am currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at The Ohio State University.
My primary research focuses on gender inequality, particularly workplace inequality, e.g., the gender wage gap, gendered career trajectories, and the mechanisms that produce these disparities. More broadly, I am interested in exploring what can be done to create more equitable and supportive environments.
In addition to this work, I am interested in understanding immigrants' assimilation trajectories across generations and the life course, particularly in the domains of socioeconomic status and health. I am especially interested in how social environments and institutions, e.g., family, school, and neighborhood, shape these processes.
Outside of academia, I am enthusiastic about wildlife and nature and hope to spend more time hiking and birding.
