Miffy Kuan (Ching Kuan) is a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Toronto. Her research interests broadly concern how social inequalities shape health, mental well-being, and health-seeking behaviors across different social and institutional contexts.
In her previous projects, she has examined inequalities in health and health behaviors from multiple perspectives and using a range of methodological approaches. In her master’s thesis, she investigated how psychosocial factors may serve as mediating mechanisms for understanding racial and ethnic disparities in health-seeking behaviors in the United States. Using panel data from Taiwan, she has also studied how intergenerational educational mobility shapes children’s mental health through the Mobility Contrast Model. Her upcoming projects seek to explore health disparities from more diverse perspectives, including social networks, environmental justice, and formal demography.
She received her M.A. and B.A. with honors from National Taiwan University.
