Nicole Tan is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, Victoria College, pursuing a degree in Economics and Statistics. Her academic and research interests lie at the intersection of economic policy, quantitative data analysis, and social outcomes. Currently, she is assisting Professor Hui Zheng on the research project "Comparing Health Outcomes and Chronic Disease Trends Between Asian Immigrant Populations and Local Canadian-Born Populations". Her work supports the project's objective to evaluate longitudinal health trends and chronic disease differences across immigrant cohorts in Ontario using population-wide administrative and immigration datasets.
Prior to this, Nicole conducted independent research focused on demographic modeling, where she developed a theoretical framework to estimate the global optimal population. This research calculated the planet's sustainable capacity by integrating critical indices, including adjusted global food availability, employment-to-dependent labor ratios, biocapacity limits versus ecological footprints, and global GDP relative to living wage capacities.
